It is the policy of this Sheriff's Office that a proper
relationship between members of the Sheriff's Office and the public
we serve is essential to effective law enforcement. Officers
must be free to exercise their best judgment and to initiate
enforcement actions in a reasonable, lawful, and impartial manner,
without fear of reprisal. Additionally, officers must closely
observe the rights of all people.
Therefore, the Coryell County
Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to bring to the attention of
this office complaints about the conduct of its members whenever a
citizen believes that an act by a employee is improper.
Complaints will be investigated and referred through proper channels
for final disposition.
This office will make every effort to ensure that no adverse
consequences occur to any person or witness as a result of having
brought a good faith complaint or for having provided information in
any investigation of a complaint.
Any Sheriff's Office employee who subjects a complainant or
witness to recrimination or harassment for providing such
information shall incur disciplinary action as appropriate.
Complaints against Sheriff's Office personnel are divided into
two classifications - formal and informal (anonymous).
Informal or anonymous are complaints that the complainant fails
to or refuses to give their name or requests that there be no formal
complaint filed. The employees supervisor will be notified of
this type of complaint, but that no formal complaint has been filed
unless additional information is developed through the
investigation. The

depicted at the bottom of the form.
Formal complaints are complaints that the complainant does
provide all the necessary information along with a notarized
affidavit of the facts of the alleged improper conduct of an
employee. The notarized affidavit must be brought in person to
the Sheriff's Office. Once received at the Sheriff's Office
the formal complaint will be immediately forwarded to the employees
Division Commander for review and and investigation. The

completed and notarized then brought to the Sheriff's Office.
Be advised that pursuit to Texas Law once a complaint is filed
against an employee that employee will receive a copy of the
complaint filed along with any other documentation pertaining to the
complaint. Also the complainant will be notified of the
outcome of the investigation into the complaint.
